First Lady and Executive Director of The Fort Bend Church
A native of Baton Rouge , Louisiana , TFBC's First Lady Sonya Taylor Stevenson is a summa cum laude graduate of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge . She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and an HISD certification in school business management.
In addition to being the busy wife to our Pastor and serving as the Executive Director of the Fort Bend Church , Sonya finds her ultimate joy and purpose in life in joining her husband in the raising of their two daughters, Claire Alexandra and Cydney Victoria, whom she affectionately deems "the greatest girlfriends in the world."
Our Executive Director and First Lady graciously accepted her husband's calling and personally pledged to God to support our Pastor fully in his ministry and to assist him in leading others to Christ. She states that while she has not been called to pastor, she has been called to work in the ministry fulltime and has no choice but to give it her all because that is God's expectation of her. Always proclaiming her husband's commitment to the church, our First Lady had also expressed, to family and friends, her desire to work for the church fulltime. Interestingly enough, this was years before her husband had been blessed with TFBC.
As Executive Director of The Fort Bend Church, Sonya is responsible for an array of essential duties and tasks that are key in the daily operations of The Fort Bend Church. Her role encompasses the administrative responsibility for all ministerial and non-ministerial activities of TFBC. Sonya is responsible for ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in the daily business operations of TFBC as well as focusing on improvement initiatives. The First Lady considers it both a privilege and an honor to serve as the Executive Director of The Fort Bend Church.
Because of Sonya's commitment to education, one of her long-term goals for TFBC is to develop The Fort Bend Church School. In so doing, she will, to some extent, follow in her mother's footsteps in participating in the education of youth. With a family legacy in the area of education, Sonya's penchant for teaching will assist her in achieving that goal.
Outside of her duties at The Fort Bend Church, Sonya is actively involved in many community service organizations including Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, The Fort Bend County Links and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Sonya is grateful for the support of both TFBC members and her retired parents who pray for her daily and keep her encouraged through their daily conversations. She is excited about her husband's vision for the church and encourages TFBC family and friends to "just stay excited because God has major blessings in store for each of us and The Fort Bend Church."
